But An Oak Village

But An Oak is a hamlet in the woods of Central Taur-na-Dúiren, located at the junction of the roads to Cor-Luithien and Talath Mintaurath from Cor-Dúiren.  It is centred on a Mighty Oak (the "'Tis But An Oak") with a lively tavern under canvas at its foot, the But An Oak Taven.  The 'Tis But An Oak is also the Temple-Tree of RATATOSKR, the Unbeatable God of Squirrels, and home of the local Squirrel Cult. The Tavern has stables for guests and a paddock at the South Eastern corner of the village.

The village is also the home of Pecheruin, The Nutty Lembas Lady, maker and purveyor of Nutty Lembas, who is occasionally assisted by her daughter, Colliel (who lives next door).

The other huts in the village are inhabited by local non-nomadic Elves, who make a living from the surrounding Forest.  The village is surrounded by a pallisade of sharpened stakes, and the roads can be blocked by log barricades in the event of attack.  There are a number of springs around the edge of the village, which provide fresh water for the inhabitants.

Just off the road by a path to the East of the village is a shrine to Tufty the Giant Squirrel, who died on that spot defending But An Oak.
